November 21st, 2017 Comments off

Congratulations TEAM USA!

18 Countries

200+ Competitors

USA – World Cup 3rd Place – Team Bronze

USA – World Cup 2nd Place – Boys Team

USA – World Cup 3rd Place – Girls Team

My two athletes, Jordan Cooperrider and Mitchell arrived at the 2017 IRF XXIX World Junior Racquetball Championships, November 4-11 in Minneapolis, MN and helped Team USA capture 3rd place overall in the team competition…. a BRONZE MEDAL. This year’s event was the first time the World Junior Racquetball Championships were held in the United States since 2012 and I was courtside coaching every step of the way.

The IRF World Junior Championship event is held every year. The event featured countries from around the world such as USA, Canada, Mexico, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Columbia, etc. They played in a preliminary round robin format tournament for 3 days to determine the seeding’s for the main draw, which was held on the last 4 days of the weeklong event.  At the end of the week an individual World Junior Champion was crowned in women’s and men’s singles and doubles.  Also, what makes it even more exciting there is a team competition so a World Junior Championship country is determined too.

This year’s event was the first time the World Junior Racquetball Championships were held in the United States since 2012.

Mitchell finished in the top 8 in the individual competition in Boy’s 16 Doubles and 2nd in the Boy’s Team.

Jordan finished in the top 8 in the individual competition in Girl’s 18 and 3rd in the Girl’s Team.

My two other athletes competed in the Challenger’s World Cup and took some hardware home themselves:

          Krish Maini – Boy’s 12 SILVER Medal

          Camilla Gomez – Girl’s 12 BRONZE Medal

HEAD/Penn and I are so PROUD of ALL of you as you accomplished what you set out to accomplish which was to make the 2017 USA National Racquetball Team and represent your country at the 2017 World Junior Championships.

They are ALL home safe and sound and back in school catching up on school work. They will start to train hard again in the coming weeks.

Paola and I spent time on the court covering stroke mechanics, shots of the game, the serve, relocation after the serve and the serve return. We drilled, played and did lots of critiquing. We also had an evening of video analysis and covered game plans, strategy and mental toughness.
