Paola Longoria…3 for 3 GOLD Medals / Rocky Carson 1 Gold / 1 Silver Medal.

My two athletes, Rocky Carson and Paola Longoria, arrived at the 2015 Pan American Championships in Toronto, Canada on July 16-27, 2015 to take care of business. Rocky wanted to defend his 2011 Pan American Title he captured in Guadalajara, Mexico four years ago. Paola also came on a mission to defend her 2011 Pan American Titles in singles, doubles and team that she also won in the Guadalajara, Mexico four years ago.

Rocky did accomplish what he set out to accomplish and defended his title as the Men’s Singles Gold Medalist and provided a repeat performance. After not dropping a single game, Rocky captured the Gold Medal by knocking off the top two players from Mexico in the semifinals (Daniel Del LaRosa) and finals (Alvaro Beltran). Rocky helped lead Team USA to the Silver Medal in the Men’s Team competition.

Paola also set out to accomplish a repeat performance and did just that by winning three Gold Medals. In the Women’s Singles bracket, Paola didn’t drop a game en-route to her second consecutive Pan Am Games championship. Paola also captured the Gold Medal in the Women’s Doubles event and brought home a Gold Medal in the Women’s Team competition. Paola is now the two-time defending champion in all women’s events at the Pan Am Games. For the three-peat, she will have to continue dominating through the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru.

The Pan American Games are held every four years, they are the pinnacle event for the world’s top racquetball players to represent their country on the international stage. The Pan Am Games offer competition in 36 sports for more than 5,000 athletes, making it one of the largest global sporting events behind the Olympic Games. The racquetball competition at the 2015 Pan Am Games featured 55 athletes from a dozen countries across the Americas!

I am so PROUD of both of them as they accomplished what they set out to accomplish as they both have been training long and hard to be able to reach their goals. They both wanted to be crowned the 2015 Pan American Games Champion and they did just that. What made it even sweeter was that I was able to be there court-side and coach Paola in some very tough matches and watch Rocky go through the draw not losing a game!

Rocky and Paola will take some time off before the 2015-16 season kicks off on their respective professional tours in late August.

In early August my Junior Championship Team (Jordan Cooperrider, Wayne Antone and Mitchell Turner) heads out to Colorado Springs, CO for the Junior National Team training camp at the United States Olympic Training Center (USOTC). They are getting ready for the Junior World Championships to be held in the Dominican Republic in early November.

“Jordan Cooperrider, Wayne Antone and Mitchell Turner ALL win GOLD at the Junior National Championships and make the USA Jr. National Team”

My “Junior Championship Racquetball Team” led by Wayne, Jordan and Mitchell, went to the Junior National Championships in Stockton, CA on a mission to make the team and they did just that…. all are now members of the USA Junior National Racquetball Team. They all walked away with a one-year appointment to the USA Junior National Team. They will be going to the United States Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in August to train for the Junior World Championships in the Dominican Republic in November.

Wayne AntoneWayne had a tough 2 game loss to Jordan Barth in the Boy’s 16 & U singles semi-finals, therefore did not qualify for the USA Junior National Team in singles, as he had to make it to the finals. Several hours later he had to come back and play in the Boy’s 16 & U doubles semi-finals to advance him into the finals, in order for a chance to qualify for the USA Junior National Team.  Wayne now had to win the Boy’s 16 & U doubles in order to qualify for the team. So after the match I had to talk to Wayne and remind him to erase his mistakes from his mind, and visualize the shot he knew he should have hit against Jordan—see it in his mind with the correction made.

I was so PROUD of Wayne, as he not only bounced back big in the semi-finals that day, but

Some happy moments after the games.

the next day he had to come back and play Jordan and his partner in the doubles finals. Well, Wayne and his partner, Kevin, won in 2 games, took home the GOLD, and therefore qualified for the USA Junior National Team. His dream came true ONLY because of his hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence.

Jordan Cooperrider – Jordan had a tough loss to Erika Manilla in the Girl’s 16 & U singles finals. Jordan lost the match in 2 games so she was not able to defend her National Title from the last 2 years. She was VERY disappointed to say the least. The next day Jordan had to come back and play in the Girl’s 16 & U and 18 & U doubles finals with Erika. So

after the match I had to talk to Jordan and remind her to erase her mistakes from her mind, and visualize the shot she knew she should have hit against Erika—see it in her mind with the correction made.

I was so PROUD of Jordan, as she had to bounce back in the doubles finals to play her best, which she did and earned 2 GOLD’s. Jordan qualified for the USA Junior National Team in BOTH singles and doubles. Jordan is already learning from the loss, the sign of a true champion.

Mitchell Turner – Mitchell had a tough loss to Antonio Rojas in the Boy’s 14 & U singles semi-finals. Mitchell lost the match in 2 games, therefore did not qualify for the USA Junior National Team in singles, as he had to make it to the finals. Several hours later he had to come back and play in the Boy’s 14 & U doubles finals, in order to qualify for the USA Junior National Team. So after the match I had to talk to Mitchell and remind him to erase his mistakes from his mind, and visualize the shot he knew he should have hit against Antonio—see it in his mind with the correction made.

I was so PROUD of Mitchell, as he had to bounce back in the finals that same day. Well, Mitchell and his partner, Julian, won the GOLD in 3 tough games and therefore qualified for the USA Junior National Team in doubles. Mitchell is a force to be reckoned with and has a burning desire to be the BEST as he plays with so much heart.

“Wayne, Jordan and Mitchell I am VERY PROUD of your accomplishments, but our job is not done. We are going to the Junior World Championships to bring home a World Title.”

Rocky Carson wins his 11th WOR Championship Title.

My “Adult Championship Racquetball Team” led by Rocky and Paola, finished the 2014-

2015 season ranked  #2 on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) and #1 on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT).  But they are both having a busy summer, no rest for the wicked.

Rocky Carson just won his 11th WOR Championship Title by beating Charlie Pratt in the semi-finals and Brandon Davis in the finals. An extraordinary event as always held in Marina Park in Huntington Beach, CA July 9-12. The WOR Championships is the biggest of all the Outdoor Racquetball events as well as having the most players, and the top pro’s from WOR, IRT, LPRT AND THE CPRT.

Paola Longoria was honored by carrying the flag for her country, Mexico, at the Opening Ceremonies of the Pan American Championships in Toronto, Canada.

The racquetball event begins July 19-July 26th and she will be going back to defend her 3 Gold Medals won in Guadalajara, MX 2011.

Rocky, Paola and I will be heading to Toronto for this very prestigious

United States Olympic Committee (USOC) International event run by the International Racquetball Federation (IRF) to hopefully bring home the Gold’s from the Pan American Games Championships in Toronto, Canada.
