May End of Season Update 2013

Paola Longoria #1 & Rocky Carson #2 2012/2013 year end ranking!

What can I say? this has been a VERY busy month for me coaching as ALL of my athletes on my “Championship Racquetball Team” shined:

Rocky Carson makes 2 finals in a row in his IRT Pro Stops.

Paola Longoria is 2 for 2 in her 2 LPRT Pro Stops 1st place victories.

Connor Laffey won the Men’s Elite Division in the 2013 National Championships at the age of 17.

Lexi York won the Women’s Elite and Girls 18 & U Divisions in the 2013 National Championships and she just turned 16 years old.

Jordan Cooperrider won the 2013 Florida Open in the Women’s Open Division and won her first cash prize of $200.00 at the age of 14, by beating all adult women.

Rocky  had 2 events in May. May 3-5 he was in Stockton, CA and beat Markie Rojas and Dan Del LaRosa before falling to Kane in the finals. Two weeks later, May 16-19, he was at The National Championships in Fullerton, CA and beat Dan Del LaRosa and Ben Croft , a sweet victory because Rocky lost to Ben a few weeks prior in Portland, OR, before falling to Kane in the finals. By making it to the finals at the finale, Rocky reached his seventh final of the 2012/2013 season and for the seventh consecutive season, finished in the top 3. Carson has placed in the top 10 of the IRT Season Ending Rankings every season since the 1998-1999 season, a span of 14 years.

As the indoor professional season for Rocky concludes, next up is the outdoor professional season and will culminate at the Huntington Beach, CA 2013 Outdoor National Championships that he has won for the last nine years, since 2002.

Paola played in 2 tournaments in May as well. Her tournaments were the same weekends as Rocky. May 3-5 she played in Herndon, VA where she beat Rhonda Rajsich in the finals. Two weeks later, May 16-19, Paola was at the same tournament as Rocky, The National Championships in Fullerton, CA, and this time beat Samantha Salas in the finals, after Samantha’s a victory over Rhonda in the semi-finals.

Paola’s record-breaking match winning streak now stands at 80 matches in a row without a loss. Her consecutive LPRT tournament-winning streak extends to 20.

As the indoor professional season for Paola concludes the international season will culminate at the 2013 World Racquetball Games in Cali, Columbia where she will be representing her home country of Mexico in the Women’s Singles and Doubles Divisions, partnering up with Samantha Salas.

Taylor (22 years old) will be finishing up his last year of engineering school at OSU, but will have lighter school load so will be playing some IRT pro stops next season.

Connor (17 years old) went to the National Championships in Fullerton, CA May 16-19 and took home a Gold Medal in the Men’s Elite Division.

There is no doubt this is preparing Connor for the Jr. National Championships in Des Moines, IA, June 26-30, 2013. The winner of the Boy’s 18 & U Division in Singles and Doubles will earn a spot on the Jr. National Racquetball Team and will represent the USA at the Jr. World Racquetball Championships in Bolivia in October 2013. Good Luck!

Lexi (16 years old) went to the National Championships in Fullerton, CA May 16-19 and took home two Gold Medals in the Women’s Elite and Girls 18 & U Divisions.

Jordan followed up her Women’s Open win at the 2013 Southeast Regionals with another win at the 2013 Florida Open Championships in the Women’s Open Division. At the ripe age of 14 she has won every Women’s Open Division of every tournament she has entered in Florida since the 2013 Florida State Championships.

There is no doubt this is preparing Jordan for the Jr. National Championships in Des Moines, IA, June 26-30, 2013. The winner of the Girl’s 14 & U Division in Singles and Doubles will earn her a spot on the Jr. National Racquetball Team and will represent the USA at the Jr. World Racquetball Championships in Bolivia in October 2013. Good Luck!

Wayne Antone (Boy’s 14+) and Mitchell Turner (Boy’s 12+), my other two students who I will be coaching (besides Connor and Jordan), are also going to the Jr. National Championships in Des Moines, IA, June 26-30, 2013. Good Luck!
