Championship Racquetball Sports Triangle

In my last article, I wrote about developing a Preseason Schedule which uses the components of flexibility, speed play, aerobic conditioning, strength training , drilling, playing, and mental toughness. This schedule gave you adequate time to prepare your Racquetball Skills, Conditioning Skills, and Mental Skills. Now that you’ve gone through the Preseason Schedule let’s introduce you to the In-Season Schedule.

Along with an In-Season schedule, let’s take a look at the Tournament Week. Your in-season training program as well as your tournament week schedule also uses the components of flexibility, speed play, aerobic conditioning , strength training, drilling, playing and mental toughness….see below tables. This gives you adequate time to prepare your Racquetball Skills, Conditioning Skills and Mental Skills.

In season:

DR (Drills), SP (Speed Play), ST (Strength), AC (Aerobic Conditioning), FLEX (Flexibility), MENT (Mental), Play (Play Games)

*What drills you do is personal based on what you need to work on.

**Remember that since the racquetball season is so long, you need to rest before each tournament, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Start to visualize and rehearse perfect technique and on-court strategies. After each tournament, rest, hydrate, stretch, and relax for a few days until your body feels energized and ready to go to the club again. This is called stress with recovery cycles, giving you the best possible chance of playing all season without serious fatigue or injuries.

Tournament Week:

DR (Drills), SP (Speed Play), ST (Strength), AC (Aerobic Conditioning), FLEX (Flexibility), MENT (Mental), Play (Play Games), TOURN (Tournament)

*How many days you take off before a tournament is personal preference, so you need to figure out what works for your individual needs.

Rocky’s, Paola’s, Taylor’s and Sharon’s “Championship Racquetball Game” stems from their belief in the Sports Triangle where ALL 3 sides of the triangle must be present and working together to reach their potential NO MATTER what. But without a shadow of a doubt they KNOW how important an “In-Season Training Schedule” as well as their schedule for a Tournament Week” is to their success. They are all now well into their seasons and getting ready for the US Open, October 5-9, 2011. They are living proof it works and their titles substantiate it.

Next issue I will continue to build your Championship Racquetball Dream House one level at a time so be ready to become the champion you always dreamed of, but now you will have the tools to do it and make it a reality.
